Jinan University contemplates setting up campus in Sarawak

KUCHING: If things go well, Sarawak would soon see a China-based university setting up its campus here.

A delegation from the Jinan University of the Guangdong province, China, visited the city on Monday as part of its fact-finding mission on the possibility of setting up a campus here.

Yesterday, the team went to Naim Holdings Bhd (Naim) sales office at Wisma Naim here to hold discussion on its proposal.

Jinan University vice president Professor Ye Qin, who led the entourage, when met during the visit yesterday said: “Naim has been working closely with Guangdong Digital Research Institute for quite sometime. It is Naim’s intention to find a Chinese university that is interested in operating in the state.

“We are here today on a fact-finding mission after we were introduced by Guangdong Digital Research Institute. We are interested in setting up a campus and at the moment we are looking at either Miri or Kuching,” said Ye, who spoke through an interpretor, the university’s deputy director Li Lijia.
