Pak Lah Happy With Progress Of GOF Batu Kawa Camp Project

Following an impromptu visit, Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Abdulah Bin Haji Ahmad Badawi expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the RM313 million General Operations Force (GOF) Camp at Jalan Field Force, Batu Kawa in Kuching recently.

Pak Lah, who made a surprise visit to the project site on Monday, expressed hope that the project undertaken by Naim Cendera Holdings Berhad subsidiary Naim Cendera Sdn Bhd, will be completed on time.

According to him, the speedy delivery of such projects will ensure great savings for the government, a government that has to be prudent and careful at all times in the implementation of big projects as public funds are involved.

During the visit, Pak Lah was briefed by Naim’s Senior Executive Director for Construction and Business Development, Ir Suyanto Haji Osman who was accompanied by Naim’s Chairman, Datuk Abdul Hamed Sepawi and Managing Director, Datuk Hasmi Hasnan.

According to Ir Suyanto, works on the project which was officially handed over to Naim on 15 September 2005 is ahead of schedule and the company is working very hard to ensure delivery ahead of the 14 March 2008 contract deadline.

He also disclosed that works on the 6 blocks of multi storey living quarters are all being done concurrently in order to ensure the timely delivery of such facilities to the affected GOF personnel and their families who have to be temporarily relocated elsewhere throughout the project duration.

The CIDB award winning Naim Cendera was appointed by the Malaysian Government as turnkey contractor for the project that will include the construction of new Administrative Blocks for both GOF Sarawak Brigade and the11th Battalion.

The scope also includes a Clinic, a Haemodylisis Centre, a Mosque for common use among the residents and neighboring kampungs, a Chapel, an Officers’ Mess, an assembly hall, an arcade, a communication workshop, shooting range, an armory and ammunition as well as supplies store for the brigade and battalion.

Pak Lah’s visit to GOF Batu Kawa Camp was made after he visited the State’s stalled Prison Complex at Puncak Borneo and present during the one-hour long function were State Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Alfred Jabu Ak Numpang, Second Minister for Resource Planning and Management, Datuk Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, Minister for Urban Development and Urbanization, Datuk William Mawan Ikom, Minister for Environment and Public Health, Datuk Michael Manyin and Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office, YB Larry Sng.

Also present were State Commissioner of Police, Datuk Talib Jamal, GOF Sarawak Brigade Commander, Haji Hamzah Bin Hassan and Director General of Public Works Department, Datuk Professor Ir Wahid Omar.
