RM313m GOF camp completed one month ahead

KUCHING: The new RM313 million Batu Kawa General Operations Force (GOF) camp completed by Naim Cendera Holdings Berhad was officially handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police at a simple ceremony here yesterday.
Naim’s acting managing director Dr Sharifuddin Abdul Wahab said Naim was the turnkey contractor for the camp project, which was the largest security complex in the country.

“The project built on 658 acres of land included the construction of 683 units of spacious living quarters for GOF staff and officers, and their families,” he said at a press conference held after the ceremony.

Apart from that the camp was also equipped with workshops, garages, boat house, weapon and ammunition store, shooting range, petrol station, mosque, chapel, kindergarten and clinic.

A mini sports complex, a haemodialysis centre, a multi purpose hall, arcade, transit quarters, canteen and offices were also included in the project.

He said the project had created history of sorts for being completed one month ahead of schedule.

“The project site was handed over to Naim on Sept 15, 2005 with a contract period of 30 months with the date of completion scheduled for Feb 25 this year.

“However, we manage to complete the work a month before the actual date,” he added.

Sharifuddin said the construction works were meticulously planned and executed on a stage by stage basis without disrupting the daily operations of the GOF headquarters which was still maintained at the same site.

He said the construction of the headquarters had been carefully planned and priority was given to the safety aspects.

“This is so that the living areas here are safe for everyone, especially for children when they are playing around.”

The acting managing director also highlighted that Naim’s maintenance team will be looking after the new camp during its warranty period of 24 months. This was to make sure that any rectification work required could be undertaken effectively.
