Naim Delivers Balingian Bridge Using First Ever Innovative Method In The Country

Mukah, Sarawak, 19th June 2007 – Main contractor for the Balingian Bridge, Naim Cendera Holdings Berhad today handed over the bridge to the client – Jabatan Kerja Raya Sarawak.

Completed 13 months ahead of schedule, innovative methods were adopted in building the bridge. For the first time in Malaysia, used tires were used for slope protection. This method has numerous advantages such as lower cost and shorter construction time, meanwhile reducing environmental hazards caused by discarded used tires. Other innovations include in-situ stitching to allow wider passage for barges, especially logging barges, using rail tracks and hoisting devices to shorten construction time and positioning accuracy.

Together with the Batang Kemena Bridge which was already opened to traffic, and also the first in Malaysia using the modern Incremental Launching Method (ILM), Naim has shown its keen on adopting new and innovative methods to speed up project delivery so as to benefit the people of Sarawak.
Construction of the RM22 million, 276 meter dual carriageway bridge across Sg. Balingian was contractually targeted to be completed by 28 June, 2008 while that of the RM13 million 5.8 km access road by 27 June, 2007. Both projects were 13 and 8 month ahead of schedule respectively. At the request of the local communities, the bridge was actually opened to light traffic prior to Gawai holidays.

With this early completion, Naim Cendera Holdings Berhad has again proven its capability and project management skills. Past projects that received compliments for early completion and quality included the Batang Kemena Bridge Bintulu, an access road to Curtin University of Technology Miri, the International Go Kart Racing Track Miri, the Institute Latihan Perindustrian and the Institute Kemahiran Belia Negara in Miri and the Upgrading of Sibu-Bintulu Road plus other infrastructure projects.
